Shimano is a Japanese company that first entered the American bike market in the 1970’s. Shimano has about 50% of the component market; they seem to be the brand that the others are compared to. They make components for the Dura Ace, the 105, and the Ultegra, and their reputation is well deserved.

You see comments on bike threads throughout the internet that tell you not to mix and match parts from various manufacturers, then you read most of them are going to work together well. Carbon vs. Aluminum Carbon Road Bikes

This is an age-old debate. Here, for your reading pleasure, are some points to take into consideration when you are ready to buy a new bike or bike frame:

Weight

It is generally accepted, though of course with exceptions, that carbon fiber road bikes are lighter than aluminum bikes. Aluminum is heavier than carbon, and it’s easier to fashion a frame to make it as light as possible from carbon than it is from aluminum.

It is possible, however, to buy quality aluminum bikes that are lighter than some carbon bikes. But the difference is negligible and may not support the increase in cost. 5 Carbon Road Bikes Under $2,000

A carbon fiber road bike is a bike with a frame made entirely out of carbon fiber. It is basically spun carbon that is coated with a type of epoxy and heat hardened. The result is a frame that is 10 times stronger than a steel equivalent, while being extremely light.
